$204m Bond Referendum is Today, March 19th

Two voting precinct locations have moved. Shoreline and Palmetto precincts are at new location. See table below. On Tuesday, voters in Fort Mill, S.C., will be faced with a decision regarding a $204 million bond referendum proposed by the Fort Mill School District. This referendum outlines a plan to fund several projects over the next five years, which the district identifies as crucial to its operations and growth. Among the key projects is the construction of a new middle school, planned to be situated next to an elementary school currently being built. The district argues that this new school is essential to relieve overcrowding and maintain optimal classroom sizes. The referendum also proposes the creation of a new early childhood education center, addressing findings that suggest nearly half of the district’s kindergarteners are starting school without necessary preparedness.Voters are asked to consider whether the Fort Mill School District No. 4 of York County, South Carolina, should be allowed to issue and sell general obligation bonds up to the total principal amount of $204 million. The proceeds from these bonds would cover costs associated with the construction and furnishing of the new middle school and early childhood development facility, alongside other expenses such as information technology upgrades, purchasing land for future school sites, maintenance of existing facilities, and, if funds allow, the renovation and expansion of other district facilities. The decision now lies with the voters to approve or reject this financial proposal, which aims to address these identified needs within the district.
