Prepare to Spring Forward with Daylight Savings Time

As winter wanes, residents across the United States are preparing to adjust their clocks for the onset of Daylight Saving Time (DST). In 2025, DST begins on Sunday, March 9, at 2:00 a.m. local standard time, when clocks are set forward by one hour. This annual “spring forward” extends evening daylight hours, aiming to make better use of daylight during the longer days of spring and summer. DST will conclude on Sunday, November 2, 2025, when clocks are set back an hour to standard time.

The tradition of adjusting clocks has been a topic of debate for years. In January 2025, the Sunshine Protection Act was reintroduced in Congress, aiming to make DST the permanent standard time nationwide. If enacted, this legislation would eliminate the biannual clock changes, allowing for consistent daylight hours throughout the year.

At the state level, discussions about the future of DST are also underway. In Texas, for instance, legislators have introduced bills proposing both the abolition of DST and the adoption of year-round DST. These efforts reflect a growing desire to end the practice of changing clocks twice a year, citing concerns over health and safety impacts.

As the nation prepares to “spring forward,” it’s essential to stay informed about potential legislative changes that could impact this long-standing practice. For now, residents are reminded to set their clocks forward by one hour on March 9, 2025, and to anticipate the extended evening daylight that comes with the change.
