Chair, Dr. Anne Royal Witte and Vice Chair Charles Z. Robinson have resigned from the York County Library Board of Trustees. Robinsons resignation statement says, “As Board Members, we are charged with the responsibility of supporting the Director, Julie Ward with all the resources to enable her to render services to the greater community, library staff, and friends. Subsequently, we must ensure that she has the freedom to act with the best of her abilities and not be micro managed by imposing board members.” Robinson’s resignation is effective immediately.
The board is now left with 5 members. The Sun has reached out to the Library Director Julie Ward for comment, but we have not received a response at this time.
Last month the Library Board Chair issued a statement on behalf of the board stating, “The board voted to place a moratorium on purchasing any materials for minors (17 and under).”As a result a special board meeting was called and the statement amended, as well as four new rules passed.
