South Pointe Boys, Dreher Girls Win Region 3 4A Track and Field Titles

COLUMBIA, SC — South Pointe captured the boys team championship and Dreher claimed the girls title at the SCHSL Class 4A Region 3 Track and Field Championships held Wednesday, April 29 at Richland Northeast High School.

The South Pointe boys finished with 188 points, comfortably ahead of runner up Dreher (132) and third place York (101). Richland Northeast (94), Camden (62.50), Lancaster (53), and AC Flora (49.50) rounded out the boys standings.

On the girls side, Dreher won the team title with 158 points, followed by Richland Northeast (129), York (122), AC Flora (95.50), Camden (84), South Pointe (71.50), and Lancaster (20).

Boys Individual Highlights

South Pointe junior Devin Isley produced one of the most dominant individual performances of the meet, winning three events. Isley took the 100 meter dash in 10.41 seconds, the 200 meter dash in 21.18, and the long jump at 6.71 meters. South Pointe teammates Jalen Davis (6.44 meters) and De’onta Watson (6.27 meters) joined Isley on the long jump podium for a Stallions sweep.

Camden senior Derrick Loney won the 400 meter dash in 49.17, with Richland Northeast sophomore Jimmele Smith second (49.86) and South Pointe junior Christopher Jones third (51.80).

In the distance events, South Pointe senior Jayden Finney won the 800 meter run in 2:02.14, holding off Lancaster senior Quentin Watts (2:03.70) and South Pointe freshman Gray Shelton (2:05.27).

South Pointe senior Keller Brown swept the longer distance races, winning the 1600 in 4:24.42 and the 3200 in 9:55.56. South Pointe juniors Reece Adams (4:33.83) and Luke Stralow (4:37.71) added second and fourth place finishes in the 1600, with York junior Ellis Spencer placing second in the 3200 (10:04.67).

Richland Northeast senior Kemarion Willingham swept the boys hurdles, winning the 110 meter event in 14.71 and the 400 meter hurdles in 58.32. Sophomore teammate Adarius Willingham finished second in both events (15.20 and 58.50 respectively).

South Pointe captured all three boys relays, winning the 4×100 in 41.85, the 4×400 in 3:30.55, and the 4×800 in 8:26.67.

In the field events, York placed three athletes in a four way tie atop the high jump standings, with seniors Saadiq Worthy, Deandre Bennett of Camden, sophomore Taijai Sherer, and senior Oliver Watson all clearing 1.88 meters.

Dreher senior Isaiah Garrett won the triple jump at 12.90 meters, with teammate Jordan Brown second at 12.34 meters. Dreher sophomore Noah Bennett took the pole vault at 3.42 meters.

York senior Levi Ward led the throws competition, winning the discus at 48.30 meters and finishing second in the shot put at 14.80 meters. Dreher senior Chanson Evans took the shot put title with a throw of 14.95 meters. Lancaster sophomore Ayden Alexander won the javelin at 43.21 meters.

Girls Individual Highlights

Richland Northeast freshman Demya Porterfield turned in a standout performance, winning both the 100 meter dash (12.10) and 200 meter dash (25.00). Senior teammate Janiyah Cosby added a third individual title for the Cavaliers, winning the 400 meter dash in 58.22.

York senior Ava Shook captured the 800 meter run in 2:19.30, with Dreher junior Eliza Jones second in 2:29.15.

AC Flora sophomore Graicen Edwards swept the longer distance events, winning the 1600 in 5:07.56 and the 3200 in 10:58.60. South Pointe junior Elizabeth Faircloth finished second in both races, running 5:11.09 and 11:07.42.

Richland Northeast senior Lacey Samuels swept the girls hurdles, winning the 100 meter event in 15.91 and the 400 meter hurdles in 1:06.63. Camden junior Avary Barnett placed second in both hurdle events.

Richland Northeast won the girls 4×100 relay in 47.86 and the 4×400 in 4:11.21, while York captured the 4×800 in 10:20.87.

In the field events, Camden eighth grader Laila Selby Baylock won the high jump at 1.57 meters. Dreher senior Brooke Lynn Witherspoon took the long jump at 4.97 meters, with sophomore teammate Mikay’lah Tilley second at 4.93 meters. Dreher junior Angel Cantlow won the triple jump at 9.79 meters.

Dreher senior Mia Rodriguez and York senior Ellie Dismukes tied for the pole vault title at 2.43 meters.

York senior Anna Sizemore led the throws, winning the discus at 32.14 meters and the shot put at 10.55 meters. South Pointe junior Da’Nasha Erby won the javelin with a throw of 39.69 meters, well ahead of the field.
