York, SC – York School District One is implementing the Centegix CrisisAlert badge system across the district, equipping every employee with a wearable badge designed to help them request assistance when it is needed. The system provides staff with a direct way to initiate alerts during urgent situations.
Depending on the type of alert, designated responders can be notified, or broader campus- wide emergency notifications can be activated. Location information helps responders identify where assistance is needed.
“School safety is about people. It’s about making sure our students feel safe coming to school, our families have confidence in the environments where their children learn, and our employees know we are committed to supporting them,” said Superintendent Dr. Heath Branham. “Providing every employee with access to the Centegix badge system is another step in that commitment. We want our team to have tools that support communication, preparedness, and our ability to respond when help is needed.”
Training is a key part of the implementation, helping employees understand how the badges work and how to use the system alongside the district’s established emergency procedures. By extending the system to every employee, YSD1 is reinforcing a districtwide approach to safety that recognizes the important role each team member plays.
Bryan McDougald, the district’s Coordinator of School Safety, emphasized that having the technology is only part of the process. “Being prepared means understanding the tools available to you and knowing how they fit into our safety procedures,” McDougald said. “The badge system gives our employees another way to communicate when assistance is needed. Our goal is to help staff feel informed and prepared while continuing to strengthen the safety practices already in place across our schools.”
For York School District One, school safety is not a one-time initiative. It requires ongoing preparation, clear communication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the well- being of students and staff. The implementation of the Centegix CrisisAlert badge system is one more way YSD1 is working to support its employees and maintain safe, supportive environments where students can learn and thrive.
The badges were approved by the Board of Trustees and paid for through capital funding.
