Women’s Soccer Hosts Emory & Henry on Sunday

SERIES HISTORY VS. EMORY & HENRY
Sunday’s match will be the first time that the Eagles and the Wasps have faced each other in any sport. However, Winthrop faced Emory & Henry’s South Atlantic Conference (SAC) foe Anderson University on August 27, 2013. The Eagles secured a 1-0 win in the match, their lone win against a SAC opponent all-time.

• The Eagles are flying high into Sunday’s game, fresh off of a 1-0 shutout of VMI for their first victory of the year
• Mia Silber scored the game-winning goal for the Eagles, her first of the season
• Goalie Mia Ruffalo recorded her first shutout of her career on Thursday night with three saves on eight shots
• Cordelia McIntosh attempted five shots against VMI, contributing to the offensive pressure. She currently leads the team in shots with seven
• Winthrop is looking to win their 70th home game all-time
• Emory & Henry enters the game coming off a 5-0 loss to Gardner-Webb on Thursday in the first of their Division I Exhibition matches
• Lindsay Sheets, Monssi Avila-Gutierrez, Cordelia McIntosh, Mia Silber were all named to the Preseason Big South Player Watch List
• Winthrop is 0-1 all-time against UTC
• Head coach Spencer Smith is entering his 17th season as head coach of WInthrop women’s soccer
• The Eagles have added a plethora of new faces to the roster, including eight freshman and a transfer student
• Winthrop has 13 returners from last season
• Senior Monssi Avila-Gutierrez led the team in goals last season with five, including a pair of game-winning goals
• Freshman goalkeeper Mia Ruffalo is the team’s lone goalie on the roster
• Winthrop was picked to finish sixth in the 2026 Big South Conference Preseason Poll
• The program is in its 24th season overall
• The Eagles have an all-time record of 158-200-52
• Monssi Avila-Gutierrez was named First Team All-Big South last season
• Cordelia McIntosh was named to the Big South Midseason Watch List last season
• Lindsay Sheets was named to the Big South All-Freshman Team in her first season in Rock Hill last year
