Liberty Media Group, owner of the Tega Cay Sun, YoCo News and Fort Mill Sun, has announced a new partnership with Winthrop University aimed at expanding coverage of the university and its athletic programs throughout York and Lancaster counties.
Through the partnership, LMG publications will feature Winthrop-related news, with a particular emphasis on Winthrop athletics. The coverage will highlight teams, student-athletes, coaches and accomplishments that may not otherwise receive significant attention in local media.
Patrick Byrne, LMG editor and Winthrop alumnus, said, “Featuring my alma mater in our publications is a dream fulfilled for me. I look forward to placing a spotlight on the university I’ve loved since the first day I stepped foot on campus.”
The partnership will provide Winthrop with additional exposure across LMG’s growing network of print and digital publications, reaching readers throughout Tega Cay, Fort Mill, York and Lancaster counties.

As the 2026-27 academic and athletic year gets underway, LMG readers can expect expanded coverage of the Eagles and the people and programs that make Winthrop an important part of the local community.
