Dr. Norris Williams to Lead Lancaster County Schools into a New Era of Innovation

The Lancaster County School District Board of Trustees announced Dr. Norris Williams as Superintendent during a Called Board Meeting.

Dr. Norris Williams brings more than twenty-five years of educational leadership experience to his new role. He served as Assistant Superintendent for Leadership and School Excellence in the Sumter County School District, where he supported principals and enhanced instructional leadership across the district.

Dr. Williams served in both Clover School District and Rock Hill School District, where he held several key roles including principal, assistant principal, and math and science teacher. His breadth of experience in instructional leadership, school operations, and personnel management positions him well to support Lancaster County’s continued focus on academic excellence and organizational effectiveness.

Dr. Williams earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Supervision from GardnerWebb University. He also holds an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Converse College, a Master of Education in Middle Level Education from Winthrop University, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University. In addition, he completed the Urban Superintendents Academy through the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) in partnership with Howard University.

Dr. Norris Williams, Deputy Superintendent stated, “My vision for continued excellence in Lancaster County School District is built around the framework of being premier.  Maintaining high standards while fostering innovation is truly an art.  It is important that individuals are aware of the expectation and what are the current trends as we move forward to developing future aspirations and future goals for our students and our families.”

“We are excited to name Dr. Williams as our Superintendent,” said Melvin Stroble, Chair. “He demonstrated a strong commitment to student success, staff support, and community engagement throughout the selection process and while serving as interim Superintendent.”

The Board conducted a comprehensive search process that included input from staff, families, and community members. Dr. Williams was selected from a pool of highly qualified candidates.
