South Carolina’s Premier Affordable Housing Summit Returns to Columbia This April

Policymakers, developers, and housing advocates set to converge for two days of strategy and collaboration

South Carolina’s statewide Affordable Housing Summit is returning to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on April 15–16, 2026. The event promises to be one of the most significant gatherings in the state focused on addressing the growing challenge of housing affordability.

Hosted by SC Housing and the SC Affordable Housing Coalition, the Summit brings together public agencies, private developers, nonprofits, lenders, and community partners for two days of strategy, innovation, and practical training.

With housing costs continuing to strain families across the Palmetto State, the timing of the event is particularly pressing. This year’s program offers timely and relevant breakout sessions, workshops, and expert panels covering key areas such as tax credits, homeownership initiatives, rural and municipal programs, nonprofit housing strategies, and more — all aimed at driving sustainable, equitable growth.

The summit is organized by two of South Carolina’s leading housing institutions. SC Housing is a self-sustaining housing finance agency committed to ensuring that South Carolinians have the opportunity to live in safe, decent, and affordable housing, supporting homeownership and quality rental housing through competitive financial products and cutting-edge programs. Alongside them, the Affordable Housing Coalition of South Carolina is a statewide membership-based coalition that brings together nonprofits, developers, lenders, public agencies, and advocates to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and promote solutions that respond to South Carolina’s diverse housing needs.

What to Expect

The two-day agenda is built around the full spectrum of affordable housing work happening across the state. Day One opens with a plenary on the root causes of South Carolina’s housing crisis before breaking into specialized sessions on tax credit programs, flood resilience and voluntary buyout programs, and the Fairfield Teachers Village — a pioneering initiative designed to attract and retain educators through affordable workforce housing. The afternoon turns to post-disaster recovery (particularly relevant given Hurricane Helene’s impact on more than 250,000 homes statewide), bond financing strategies, municipal housing innovations, and updates to the SC Housing Trust Fund. Day One closes with a Legislative Reception.

Day Two leads with a statewide economic outlook before diving into sessions on accessible and inclusive housing design, LIHTC compliance updates, Opportunity Zones 2.0, and the connection between housing and public health through South Carolina’s State Health Improvement Plan. A highlight is the Summit’s first-ever WAHN Developer Power Panel, hosted by the SC Women’s Affordable Housing Network and featuring leading women developers from across the state. The Summit concludes with an Awards Luncheon recognizing outstanding contributions to affordable housing in South Carolina.

Speakers represent a wide range of expertise — from Clemson University researchers and public finance attorneys to nonprofit executives, state agency leaders, and community development professionals.
