High school students interested in federal law enforcement have a unique opportunity to step behind the scenes of the nation’s premier investigative agency. The FBI Columbia Field Office has announced it is now accepting applications for its annual Teen Academy, scheduled for June 23–24.
The two-day intensive program will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the FBI Columbia headquarters in Lexington. The academy is designed to provide rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a comprehensive look at the Bureau’s inner workings and day-to-day field operations.
A Look Inside the Bureau
Participants will engage with special agents and professional staff on a wide range of critical topics, including:

Specialized Units: Overviews of the Evidence Response Team, SWAT, and tactical operations.

Investigation Tracks: Presentations on terrorism, cybercrime, public corruption, and violent crime.

Career Pathways: Insights into the various roles available within the FBI beyond traditional agent positions.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
The academy is open to South Carolina residents ages 15–18 who are enrolled in an accredited high school or recognized home school environment. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.8.
The selection process is competitive. In addition to the standard application form, prospective students must submit a formal essay. This narrative should articulate their interest in the program and explain how the experience will impact their personal development and future contributions to their community.
Deadlines and Submission
Interested students must act quickly, as the deadline for all materials—including parental approval and the required essay—is Monday, March 23, at 5 p.m. Applications submitted after this time will not be considered.
Completed packets can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the FBI Columbia Field Office at 222 Caughman Farm Lane, Lexington, SC 29072. Selected applicants will be notified of their acceptance via email on April 3.
