With heavy hearts and deep sadness, York County Council, County Management and County staff mourn the loss of one of our most dedicated and long-time colleagues, Michael Kurt Kendree. A graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law, Michael was a long tenured attorney of over 35 years and served as legal counsel for York County for more than 23 years, with the last 15 years as County Attorney. Michael embodied the traits of the quintessential southern gentlemen, with a keen legal mind. He was an attorney with sharp legal acumen and a tireless approach to serving York County and his profession.
Michael was a loyal and dedicated fixture within York County Government, often working late nights and over weekends serving the County through periods of massive growth and change. Those he worked with attest to his tremendous work ethic, calm and professional temperament, quick wit, and dedication to serving the citizens of York County. He will be remembered for his wide breadth of legal and institutional knowledge and as a man of the highest ethical standards and impeccable integrity.
Michael was a kind man, and generous with his time. He was a leader, mentor and a friend to many and he will be sorely missed. Though our sadness is deep, we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this time of grief.
York County Council will formally acknowledge the sad news of Michael Kendree’s passing at its next regularly scheduled meeting on April 6.
