Ronald Nelson Baucom, age 83, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away peacefully on Friday February 13, 2026, at Somerby Edgewater in Indian Land, SC.
The family is hosting a Celebration of Life for Ronald/Ron on February 28, 2026 at 3:30pm, at the Waterside at the Catawba clubhouse, 1061 Bryson Gap Drive, in Fort Mill, SC 29715.
Ronald was born on June, 22, 1942, on his beloved grandparent’s farm in New Salem, NC. He was the son of Beecher Wilson Baucom and Nelson Brooks Mullis, and the stepson of Ward Mullis.
Ron and his family moved from Union County to Charlotte in the early 1950’s. He was in the first graduating class of Garinger High School, and a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree. He was a US Air Force veteran, serving 4 years active duty. As the city of Charlotte grew and expanded, he built a successful career as an award-winning Realtor. For 50 years, he took pride in helping hundreds of families find homes during a time of tremendous growth in the city he loved. A few of the builders he worked with were Ralph Squires Homes, Beazer Homes, Embassy Homes, and custom builders in the early years of Tega Cay and Charlotte. Ron loved sports and was an original PSL owner for the Carolina Panthers, a big Charlotte Hornets fan, a UNCC 49ers fan, and a skilled fisherman. He fulfilled a life-long dream of co-owning an airplane and learning to fly. His favorite activities were music, reading, hosting family get-togethers, and traveling to explore the world with his wife Charlotte, making years of wonderful memories.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, his brother Jerry Baucom and great grand-daughter Heidi Hamilton. He is survived by siblings Gary Mullis and Diane Chandler, and his loving wife of 27 years, Charlotte Simpson-Baucom.
He was a proud father to Ronda Baucom (Wally Schmader), Suzanne Coniguliaro (Charles), Jonathan Baucom (fiancé Kristina Sanders); and to step-children Blake Simpson (Liz), Lydia Morales (Manny), and Wes Simpson (Yejin). He leaves behind many grandchildren: Abigail Hamilton (Ethan), Nicholas, August, and Beckett Coniguliaro, Ellie Baucom, Sarah and Jake Schmader, Skylar Hunt, Emily, Meredith, and Zane Simpson, and Zach and Alan Morales.
The family would like to thank the staff at Somerby Edgewater, and the staff at Epic Care Health for their loving and attentive care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
