York County Restaurant Inspections: Five Kitchens Receive ‘B’ Grades in December

YORK COUNTY, S.C. – State health inspectors visited 132 dining establishments across York County in December 2025. While the majority of local kitchens met safety standards, five establishments received “B” ratings, citing violations ranging from temperature control issues to plumbing and structural maintenance problems.

A “B” grade is typically issued when an establishment scores between 78 and 87 points on a routine inspection or fails to correct priority violations during a follow-up.

Here are the details for the five establishments that received “B” ratings during the December reporting period:

Courtney’s Barbecue

• Location: 1166 Hwy 55 E, Clover

• Score: 78 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 17, 2025

Inspectors noted several violations during a routine inspection, resulting in a score of 78. The report cited multiple temperature control issues, with food items like coleslaw and Gator Sauce held past their seven-day use-by date. The facility was also cited for using “T-shirt bags” filled with ice to cool raw meat, which is not an approved food-contact surface. Other violations included a handwashing sink in the smoke pit blocked by paper towels, organic debris accumulation in the soda/ice machine, and single-service items being used as scoops. Structural issues were also noted, including a walk-in cooler door that would not self-seal and unsealed wood shelving.

Update: As of the end of the December reporting period, a follow-up inspection grade had not yet been recorded.

Eggs Up Grill #53

• Location: 516 Mercantile Pl, Fort Mill

• Score: 82 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 12, 2025

This location received a “B” grade due to consecutive violations regarding handwashing and temperature control. Inspectors found that the hot water at the cook line hand sink was not operational, and other sinks failed to reach the required 100°F. The report also cited numerous cold holding violations, with items such as diced ham, sausage crumble, and sliced cheese holding between 47°F and 51°F, well above the 41°F safety limit. Additionally, crab cakes, yogurt, and sliced tomatoes were found held past their disposition date.

Update: The restaurant received an “A” rating during a follow-up inspection on Dec. 19, 2025.

Victor’s Cafe

• Location: 3674 Hwy 51, Fort Mill

• Score: 86 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 14, 2025

Victor’s Cafe was cited for temperature violations on both the hot and cold lines. Inspectors found pork, shredded beef, and ground beef holding at unsafe temperatures on the cook line. Similarly, items in the cold holding units, including breaded steak, deli ham, and raw hamburger patties, were found at temperatures as high as 60°F. The report also noted that the facility did not have a food temperature measuring device available at the time of inspection and that the sanitizing solution in the 3-compartment sink was too weak.

Update: The restaurant received an “A” rating during a follow-up inspection on Dec. 29, 2025.

Runx #6

• Location: 240 Carowinds Blvd, Fort Mill

• Score: 97 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 3, 2025

Although Runx #6 received a high numerical score, it was downgraded to a “B” due to consecutive priority violations. Inspectors noted that the facility had added a pizza prep area without installing a handwashing sink in a reasonable proximity. Additionally, the hand sink in the women’s restroom only reached 60°F, failing to meet the minimum temperature requirement. Unpainted and unsealed wood shelving above the prep area was also cited as a repeat violation.

Fairfield Inn and Suites

• Location: 578 Galleria Blvd, Rock Hill

• Score: 97 (B)

• Inspection Date: Dec. 3, 2025

This facility received a “B” grade during a follow-up inspection. The report cited that no certified Food Handler was present at the time of inspection. Additionally, inspectors found that the chemical sanitizer concentration in the warewashing equipment did not reach the required 50 PPM minimum. Because these were priority violations that were not corrected, the facility’s grade was affected despite the high score.
