COLUMBIA, S.C. — The race to decide South Carolina’s next governor is heating up, as the South Carolina Republican Party (SCGOP) has officially announced a series of televised debates for the upcoming gubernatorial primary.
With current Governor Henry McMaster term-limited and unable to seek reelection, the upcoming cycle represents a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
“The coming election represents the first truly open governor’s race for Republicans since 2010, and we’re looking forward to creating an opportunity for all South Carolinians to hear from our candidates as they consider who to support in the coming campaign,” said SCGOP Chairman Drew McKissick.
The Debate Schedule
The party has planned a tour across the state to ensure regional coverage, with Gray Media stations set to broadcast the events. The schedule is as follows:
-
March 17: Coastal Carolina University
-
April 21: College of Charleston
-
May 26: Wofford College
-
June 16 (Tentative): Newberry Opera House (Reserved for a potential runoff election)
A Crowded Field
The primary field is already crowded with high-profile contenders vying for the nomination. The candidates looking to succeed Gov. McMaster include:
-
Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette
-
Attorney General Alan Wilson
-
U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-Charleston)
-
U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-Rock Hill)
-

As the candidates prepare to face off, these debates will serve as critical platforms for voters to distinguish between the platforms and visions of those seeking the state’s highest office.
