SC Attorney General Launches Probe into Roblox Safety Practices

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has issued a Civil Investigative Demand (CID) to Roblox Corporation to determine if the gaming platform is in violation of the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act. The investigation seeks to uncover whether the company has engaged in deceptive acts or unlawful practices regarding its safety protocols.

The inquiry centers on the platform’s marketing as a leading site for children and teenagers. State investigators are looking into whether the company has misled parents about the level of protection provided to minor users on the site.

The South Carolina probe follows lawsuits in other states alleging that the platform contains sexualized content and lacks adequate age-verification or parental consent controls. The CID requests specific information from Roblox, including:

  • The total number of minors in South Carolina who access the platform.

  • The specific methods used to moderate content.

  • Whether the platform allows advertisers to target minor users.

Beyond safety concerns, the investigation also seeks information related to potential violations of the South Carolina Uniform Money Services Act, which regulates financial transactions and digital currency.
