FORT MILL, SC — The Humane Society of York County (HSYC) has kicked off Senior Appreciation Month with a poignant plea for two deserving older pets—a “frustrated” feline named Clark and a “plump” but marvelous Rottie mix, Graham. The shelter’s latest email newsletter highlights the unique needs of senior animals while celebrating significant adoption successes this year.
Clark and Graham: Seeking Calm, Solo Homes
This week’s featured residents, Clark and Graham, both require a specific, calm environment where they can thrive as the sole pets.
Clark, a handsome, fluffy boy estimated to be just over nine years old, returned to the HSYC in 2024, seven years after his initial kitten adoption in 2017. Described as “frustrated with the life he’s been dealt,” Clark has been in the rescue for 655 days too long. He is seeking cat-savvy adopters (person, couple, or family with adult children) willing to collaborate with him on affection and provide a stable home for his senior years, complete with an “awesome window perch.”
Similarly, Graham, a Rottweiler mix closing in on 12 years young, was abandoned outside the rescue. This “funny dude with a big personality” is also looking for an exclusive arrangement, wanting to be the only pet to soak up all the affection. Graham, who loves his walks, has been successfully working on his weight after a history of being “very treat motivated.” Both seniors are neutered/spayed, vaccinated, tested, and micro-chipped.
How to Help HSYC’s Mission
The HSYC, located at 8177 Regent Parkway in Fort Mill, is using the momentum of Senior Appreciation Month to engage the community in various fundraising and donation efforts. The shelter reports an impressive adoption tally for the year-to-date in 2025, having placed 684 pets (149 dogs and 535 cats) into their forever homes.
The organization urges supporters to “SHOP to SAVE FUR LIVES!” at their Seasonal Christmas Shop, Boutique, or PAWSibilities Thrift Shop, which converts gently used items into “LIFE SAVING dollars.” They are also hosting a Christmas Santa Pictures fundraiser this weekend.
Immediate needs for the shelter’s “FUR TENANTS” include:
- Cat Litter (especially Pine Litter)
- Dry Cat Food – Purina BLUE BAG
- Dog Treats – any type
The HSYC asks potential adopters to call 803-802-0902 to make an appointment to meet Clark or Graham. Full adoption requirements and details on how to become a monthly donor can be found on their website, www.humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org.
