South Carolina Football Hall of Fame Opens Public Voting for Storied Class of 2025 Nominees

The South Carolina Football Hall of Fame (SCFHOF) has officially announced its first-round ballot for the prestigious Class of 2025, inviting fans, supporting members, and media to cast their votes and help select the newest legends of Palmetto State football.

The nomination ballot features a deep and diverse list of 65 nominees, including players, coaches, and administrators who have made a significant impact on the game in South Carolina. This year’s class represents nine different South Carolina collegiate football programs, showcasing the state’s rich gridiron heritage.

The Nomination Ballot Breakdown

The 2025 nomination list is split into two categories: the modern era nominees and the 15 Legacy nominees. Legacy nominees specifically honor individuals whose primary impact occurred outside the modern era or those who have passed away.

Every candidate on the ballot meets the criteria of either being born, growing up, playing high school or college football, coaching at one of the state’s collegiate programs, or otherwise making a significant positive impact on football in South Carolina.

Notable figures on the ballot represent a wide range of colleges and eras, including:

  • Coastal Carolina’s great running back Mike Tolbert, a three-time NFL Pro Bowl selection.
  • University of South Carolina standouts such as quarterback Todd Ellis, cornerbacks Sheldon Brown and Johnathan Joseph, and running back Marcus Lattimore.
  • Clemson University legends including defensive lineman Brentson Buckner and running back C.J. Spiller.
  • NFL talents who grew up in the state like former Panthers linebacker Dexter Coakley (Mt. Pleasant) and Pro Bowl receiver Roddy White (James Island).
  • Legendary coach Lou Holtz, who revived the South Carolina Gamecocks program.

How to Vote and Enshrinement Details

The SCFHOF emphasizes public participation in the selection process. The first-round voting period is currently open and runs through December 15, 2025.

During this time, football fans and supporting members can vote for:

  • Up to four (4) modern-era nominees.
  • Up to one (1) legacy nominee.
  • Voters also have the option to submit a write-in candidate.

The candidates who receive the most votes will advance to the final round of voting.

The Class of 2025 will officially be enshrined at the organization’s 13th Annual Enshrinement Ceremony scheduled for April 16, 2026, in Greenville, S.C.
