Weapons Detection EVOLV’s in Lancaster County Schools

Lancaster County School District is excited to announce that less than a year after demoing the Evlov Weapons Detection Systems, systems have been installed in ALL middle and high schools. The EVOLV system utilizes AI technology to identify weapons and weapons parts without invasive methods.

Students, staff, and visitors will regularly utilize these walk-through weapons detection systems. Bookbags, and devices will not need to be removed in order to pass through. Students will remove Chromebooks, 3-ring binders, water bottles, and umbrellas. Individuals flagged by the system will be asked to step aside and a search will be performed based on the pin-pointed area of the threat.

Safety and Transportation Director Lonnie Plyler secured training for school and district administrators. EVOLV systems will begin being used in ALL middle and high schools on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Dr. Raashad Fitzpatrick shared, “Lancaster County School District is committed to the safety of our students, staff, and community. The EVOLV system will strengthen our current processes and allow efficient and effective screening.”

Lancaster County School District believes student and staff safety is paramount. We ask that if you are aware of a threat, please See Something, Say Something. You can report those threats via a link at the bottom of the district and school websites. We will continue partnering with local law enforcement and seeking solutions to create safer environments as One Lancaster: All In for All Students in All Areas of the county, All of the time.”
