York, SC – On Tuesday, York Comprehensive High School’s NJROTC hosted its Annual Inspection Ceremony, which included inspection of the unit, as well as recognitions and promotions for cadets in the program.
The York NJROTC (Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp) program operates at York Comprehensive High School, as part of the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center. The Unit focuses on the STAR principle – Self-discipline, Teamwork, Attention to detail, and Respect in everything they do. The Unit consists of several teams, specifically Drill Team, Marksmanship Team, Color Guard, and Orienteering Team.

“As Superintendent, I could not be more proud of how this program embodies our district’s vision: Connected as ONE. When I looked at today’s formation, I saw not only discipline and excellence, but I also saw the future leaders of York School District One and of our nation,” said Dr. Heath Branham, Superintendent of York School District One.
Cadets are active in the community, providing Color Guards for several events and organizations including the Carolina Panthers, Charlotte FC, Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Charlotte Checkers and Charlotte Hornets. Additionally, they are constantly in their community volunteering their time at Boys and Girls Clubs, and events such as Parades, City Cleanups, and festivals.

“While we have only been in school for 5 weeks, you cannot tell it by their performance. Thirty-nine of our 74 Cadets are first year, but they look, perform and carry themselves as if they have more than two years of experience. Under the leadership of our Upper Classmen, all cadets elevate themselves to the high standards we expect, and we are so proud of them – not just after today’s inspection and performance, but every single day. They all truly set the standard for others to emulate. OOH RAH!” said Chief Steve Shephard, NJROTC Instructor at York Comprehensive High School.
