Pet Spotlights: Kameko and Frito Await Forever Homes at the Humane Society of York County

FORT MILL, S.C. — Two long-term residents of the Humane Society of York County (HSYC) are looking for their forever homes. This week’s featured adoptable pets are Kameko, a spirited young cat, and Frito, a resilient small-breed dog. Both animals have unique personalities and stories, and the shelter hopes to match them with the right adult-only households.

Cat of the Week: Kameko

Kameko is not your average feline. Just over a year and a half old, this energetic cat has been waiting far too long for a home of his own. Described by HSYC staff as playful, outgoing, and full of character, Kameko thrives in the company of other cats and especially enjoys toy balls.

Known for his impressive jumping ability and bold personality, Kameko also shows affection in quirky ways—including playful nips followed by gentle licks. Because of his high-energy nature, the shelter recommends he be adopted into an adult-only home.

Kameko is fully vetted—neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested—and is ready to meet his match. To schedule a visit, contact HSYC at 803-802-0902 or visit their website at www.thehsyc.org.

Dog of the Week: Frito

Frito, a chihuahua-dachshund mix, has been at HSYC for 676 days. He arrived as an owner surrender and showed signs of having experienced mistreatment. Despite his difficult past, shelter volunteers say Frito has made tremendous progress.

Weighing between 15–20 pounds, Frito enjoys car rides, walks, and watching TV. He has gradually opened up to more people, though he remains selective and may need multiple visits to build trust. An adult-only home where he can be the only pet is recommended.

Frito is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and patiently waiting for someone willing to invest the time to help him continue healing.

To meet Frito, call 803-802-0902 or visit www.humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org.
