Construction on I-77 Toll Lanes to Uptown Charlotte Slated for 2030

The timeline for the next phase of Charlotte’s express lane network is officially in motion. The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization has set a construction start date of 2030 for the new I-77 toll lanes, which will run along an 11-mile corridor from the South Carolina state line to Uptown Charlotte.

The project is estimated to have an initial cost of $3.2 billion, a figure that is expected to increase due to anticipated rises in construction expenses. While the project timeline for construction is set, an exact opening date for the express lanes has not yet been determined.

The expansion is intended to improve traffic flow and provide new commuting options for drivers traveling between South Carolina and the heart of Charlotte.
