ROCK HILL, S.C. – Rock Hill High School has announced Leon Boulware as its new head football coach, marking a homecoming for the Bearcats alumnus. The school made the hire official this week, following the departure of former head coach Randy Birch.
Boulware, a 2002 graduate of Rock Hill High, brings 18 years of coaching experience, including previous head coaching stops at Lewisville and, most recently, Lugoff-Elgin. He takes over a program that finished 5-6 last season and reached the second round of the Class 5A Division I playoffs.
At Lewisville High School in Richburg, Boulware led a significant turnaround. Over two seasons, he compiled a 21-4 record and helped transform the Lions into one of South Carolina’s top Class 1A programs. Before his arrival, Lewisville had won just 11 games over the previous four seasons combined.
Boulware spent the 2024 season at Lugoff-Elgin High School, where he guided the Demons to a 4-7 record and a playoff appearance. The team had gone 2-9 the year before, and his efforts were seen as the beginning of a rebuilding process.
Spring practice at Rock Hill is set to begin next week as Boulware begins his tenure leading the Bearcats.
