The Rock Hill School District is advancing its commitment to safety by ensuring staff receive comprehensive emergency preparedness training this week. This proactive effort aims to prepare faculty for a range of crises, including both natural disasters and instances of violence.
The in-person training, which took place on Monday, October 6, lasted seven hours and focused on federal disaster management standards. District officials confirmed the exercise is a strategic step to reduce the impact of any emergency.
Staff were instructed on the principles of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). This framework, established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), draws lessons from major past events, including the September 11th attacks and Hurricane Katrina.
The training also focused on how district personnel can effectively partner with outside agencies, such as York County Emergency Management.
The district is the first school system in York County to host an in-person training session with the county’s emergency management office.
