York County Sheriff’s Office Next Quarterly Hiring Event: March 26th 4-7pm

YORK COUNTY, S.C. – The York County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO) is holding their next quarterly hiring event on March 26th from 4-7pm. According to their social media account, the Sheriff’s Office is actively hiring for Detention Officers, Nurses (LPN and RN) and Booking Clerks. There is a structured selection process in place for each role.

Minimum Requirements

All applicants must meet the following basic qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (college degree preferred).
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
  • Good physical health.
  • No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions.
  • No DUI convictions in the past 10 years.
  • Honorable military discharge (if applicable).
  • Enforcement applicants must reside in South Carolina.
  • Minimum age: 21 for sworn personnel, 18 for non-sworn, and 19 for detention officers.

Enforcement Division Selection Process

Applicants for the Enforcement Division must complete several steps before being hired, including:

  1. Submitting an online application through York County government.
  2. Completing a personal history statement.
  3. Undergoing video-based testing and a job-related physical ability test.
  4. Participating in an initial interview and an extensive background investigation.
  5. Completing polygraph and psychological examinations.
  6. Passing a drug screening and medical examination.
  7. A final interview with the Sheriff.

Deputy candidates who are not already certified law enforcement officers in South Carolina must attend basic training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia. Those with out-of-state certification may qualify for a shorter six-week program.

Detention Division Selection Process

The process for Detention Division applicants includes:

  1. Submitting an online application and completing pre-employment testing.
  2. Taking video-based assessments and undergoing a background investigation.
  3. Participating in multiple interviews, including a Conditional Offer interview.
  4. Completing a polygraph examination, medical examination, and drug screening.

Newly hired detention officers who are not certified as Class II law enforcement officers in South Carolina must also complete training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
