York School District One Secures Land for Future Middle School

YORK, SC—York School District One is excited to announce the purchase of approximately 64
acres of land on Highway 161, marking a significant step forward in the district’s long-term
growth and development plans. The purchase was finalized on January 31, 2025, and the
property will serve as the future site of an additional middle school, made possible by the
successful passage of the Bond Referendum in November 2024.

While the district previously owned approximately 130 acres off Ernest Road, the Board of
Trustees determined that acquiring the Highway 161 property was a fiscally responsible
decision. The cost of necessary site preparation for the Ernest Road property would have
exceeded the cost of purchasing the newly acquired land, making this decision the most
efficient use of district resources.

“The purchase of this property represents our commitment to responsible financial
stewardship while ensuring that we provide the best possible facilities for our students,” said
Scott Childers, Board Chair. “This investment will help accommodate our growing community
and support the high-quality educational experience that our community expects and
deserves.”

The addition of a new middle school aligns with York School District One’s ongoing efforts to
enhance educational opportunities and maintain optimal learning environments for students.
The district looks forward to keeping the community informed as plans progress toward the
construction and eventual opening of the new facility.
