Three candidates have filed for the single at large seat on the Clover School District Board of Trustees, the only contested school board race in the district a week before filing closes.
Incumbent Matt Burris filed for the at large seat, along with Christopher DiFilippo and Vicki Gibson, neither of whom currently serves on the board. The at large seat is voted on by every voter in the district.
Four Clover seats are on the November ballot. Board Chairman Rob Wallace has filed for Seat 5 and board Secretary Keron Meeks has filed for Seat 2, both without a challenger so far. No candidate has filed for Seat 1, which is held by Mike Ballard.
Filing opened at noon Monday, Aug. 3, and closes at noon Monday, Aug. 17, at the York County Voter Registration and Elections office. Ballard has until then to file for reelection, as does anyone who wants to challenge for any of the four seats.
How the races work
The seats are nonpartisan. No party label appears next to a candidate’s name and there is no primary, so every candidate who qualifies goes straight to the Nov. 3 general election. Trustees serve four year terms, staggered so that only part of the seven member board turns over in a given cycle. The seats held by Jessica Cody, Kenda Cook and Tracy Stiff are not on the ballot until 2028.
Filing closes at noon Monday, Aug. 17. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
