Two candidates have filed for seats on the Rock Hill School District Board of Trustees with a week left in the filing period, and neither is a sitting trustee.
Sally Young filed for Seat 4 and Matt Hiers filed for the at large seat. No one had filed for Seat 2 as of Tuesday morning, and none of the three trustees whose terms end this year had filed for reelection.
Filing opened at noon Monday, Aug. 3, and closes at noon Monday, Aug. 17, at the York County Voter Registration and Elections office. Trustees who want to run again have until then, as does anyone else.
The seats on the ballot
Three of the seven seats on the Rock Hill board are up this year. Seats 2 and 4 cover the northern part of the city. The at large seat is voted on by everyone in the district.
The seats are held by Chairwoman Helena Miller, who represents Seat 2, along with Pete Nosal and Lacy Daniel.
The races are nonpartisan. No party label appears next to a candidate’s name and there is no primary, so every candidate who qualifies goes directly to the Nov. 3 general election. Trustees serve four year terms, staggered so that only part of the board turns over in a given cycle.
Filing closes at noon Monday, Aug. 17. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
