South Carolina Launches Online Portal for Healthcare Facility Complaints

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) has introduced a new digital tool designed to simplify how residents report concerns regarding licensed healthcare and personal care facilities. The online portal aims to modernize the oversight process and ensure higher standards of safety and care across the state.

The new system covers an expansive list of regulated establishments. Residents can now use the platform to file reports concerning nursing homes, dialysis centers, and home health agencies. Additionally, the portal’s reach extends to non-medical licensed facilities, such as tattoo and body piercing studios.

A key feature of the portal is a guided questionnaire designed to help DPH staff categorize and address complaints more efficiently. To reduce the administrative burden on the reporter, the system is programmed to automatically populate specific facility details, including license numbers and the names of current administrators, once a facility is selected.

State health officials indicated that this automation is intended to streamline the intake process, allowing investigators to begin their work faster. By improving the speed and accuracy of these inquiries, the DPH hopes to enhance the overall quality of care and public safety statewide.

While the online portal is now the primary method for reporting, the department is maintaining traditional communication lines for those who may have limited internet access or prefer to speak with a representative. The DPH Healthcare Quality office remains available to take complaints via a toll-free telephone line at 1-800-922-6735.

The rollout of this portal represents a significant step in the agency’s effort to increase transparency and accountability for the hundreds of licensed facilities operating within South Carolina.
