Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Dewey Chapman, age 76, of York, SC, passed away on Tuesday, September 8,
2026, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy., York, SC 29745. A Celebration of Life service will begin at 12:00 noon in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jack Mounts officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 12136 Honor Guard.
Ken was born on November 10, 1947, in Charlotte, NC, and was the son of the late Melvin Curtis Chapman and Ophelia Ferrell Chapman. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a decorated Vietnam veteran. During his military service, Ken was wounded in combat and was awarded numerous medals, including the Purple Heart in recognition of his sacrifice and service to his country.
Through all his challenges and battles, he cared more for those around him than himself and maintained a legendary sense of humor. He was a brave, hard-working and selfless man. After returning from Vietnam, he excelled as a jet pilot.
Ken is survived by his granddaughter, Katie Chapman; and his siblings, Melvin Leroy Chapman (Margaret), Ronald Chapman, Donna Coley, and Judy Chapman.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his granddaughter, McKensie Gibson; and his siblings, Barry Chapman, Wayne Chapman, Richard Chapman, Ray Chapman, Barbara Crump, Sylvia Calhoun, Judy Phillips, and Charles Chapman.
Memorials may be made in Ken’s memory to the B+ Foundation, 101 Rockland Cir., Wilmington, Delaware 19803.
