David Andrews, a ninth grader at Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, is making his mark across multiple sports while competing for a national Youth Athlete of the Year honor.
Andrews plays safety and wide receiver for the Catawba Ridge football team and also competes in basketball. On the track, he has emerged as a standout long jumper, recording a mark of 19 feet, 4 inches and earning a No. 3 state ranking in the Class of 2030, according to MileSplit.
He is currently competing in the 2026 Youth Athlete of the Year competition, with a $25,000 grand prize and a mentoring session with NFL quarterback Russell Wilson among the prizes. Andrews is currently third in his group heading into the next round.
For Andrews, athletics are about more than competition. He enjoys being part of a team, challenging himself and putting in the work necessary to improve. He embraces the excitement of game day while also appreciating the preparation behind it.
Andrews lists basketball legend Kobe Bryant as a major inspiration, admiring Bryant’s work ethic and commitment to continual improvement.
