The skyline along Interstate 85 is shifting as the Catawba Nation prepares to open the first permanent phase of its billion-dollar gaming destination in late March. Located roughly 35 miles from Charlotte, the Catawba Two Kings Casino is transitioning from its temporary modular facility into a significantly larger venue.
This initial phase will introduce 1,300 slot machines and 22 live table games to the floor, alongside new electronic table games. To complement the expanded gaming options, the facility will also debut a new bar and restaurant area.
A Long-Term Economic Engine
Leadership from the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority views this expansion as a foundational milestone for the tribe’s economic future. The project is designed to provide sustainable opportunities and resources for several generations of tribal members. Beyond tribal benefits, the complex is poised to become a major regional employer; once the entire project reaches completion, the casino expects to have a workforce of more than 2,000 people.
Future Phases and Luxury Amenities
The March opening is only a precursor to a much larger main floor currently under development. That seven-acre single-deck venue is scheduled to debut in the spring of 2027. Upon completion, the total gaming capacity will rise to 3,000 slot machines and over 100 table games, including specialized high-limit areas and a central cage.
The project also features a 385-room hotel rising above the gaming deck. Project consultants aim to achieve four-diamond status for the hotel, positioning the site as a national destination for both gaming and hospitality. The finished resort will offer a 24-hour cafe and multiple full-service restaurants to cater to the thousands of travelers who pass the site daily.
Site Development
Since breaking ground nearly two years ago, the project has maintained a rapid pace to capitalize on the high traffic volume of the I-85 corridor. With the infrastructure for the hotel and the expansive gaming floor now clearly visible to commuters, the March opening marks the shift from a temporary local operation to a major regional resort destination.
