The Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group eased its advisory after conditions improved in the river basin, and Fort Mill is asking residents to voluntarily cut water use.
The Catawba-Wateree Drought Management Advisory Group reported on Nov. 2 that conditions in the Catawba-Wateree River Basin have improved, lowering its advisory from a higher stage to Stage 1 drought conditions.
The Town of Fort Mill, which purchases its water from the City of Rock Hill, said it supports the advisory group’s water conservation request for all users.
Under Stage 1, water conservation is voluntary rather than mandatory for major water users. Residents and businesses are asked to reduce their water usage by 3% to 5% of normal usage, according to the town.
The advisory group said the drought level will be reduced further, to Stage 0, once it sees a significant increase in the six-month average streamflow.
