Allison Carter Leads Andrew Jackson at Girls 3A State Swim Meet

Andrew Jackson High School finished 15th with 73 points at the South Carolina High School League Girls 3A State Swimming Championship on Thursday, Oct. 8, at the University of South Carolina.

The Kershaw school placed one point behind Governor’s School (74) and six points ahead of Powdersville (67) in a 28 team field. Bishop England won the team title with 545 points, 115 ahead of St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Academic Magnet was third with 328.

Carter places sixth twice

Allison Carter posted Andrew Jackson’s top finishes, placing sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.67 and sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:16.13. Her two swims accounted for 34 of the team’s 73 points.

In the breaststroke, Carter finished 0.06 seconds ahead of Seneca’s Lana Crain. St. Joseph’s Odette Brown won the event in 1:04.79.

Neely Kate Deese added two scoring swims, finishing 13th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.63 and 18th in the 500 freestyle in 6:13.40.

Violet Fleming scored in two events, placing 17th in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.60 and 19th in the 100 backstroke in 1:08.93.

Relays add 22 points

Andrew Jackson’s 200 freestyle relay of Deese, Shamya Jackson, Fleming and Carter finished 15th in 1:59.51. The same four swimmers placed 16th in the 200 medley relay in 2:15.56, with Jackson leading off on backstroke. Andrew Jackson did not enter the 400 freestyle relay.
