Northwestern senior Grace Harvey won the girls 5,000 meter race at the Victory Bolt XC Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Lake Wylie High School, holding off York County Trailblazers junior Harmony Fuller by less than two seconds.
Harvey finished in 18:53.12 and Fuller in 18:54.90. The next closest runner, Landrum sophomore Ruby Cain, was more than half a minute back in 19:30.42.
Eight York and Lancaster County programs ran in the meet alongside teams from the Upstate and Midlands. J.L. Mann junior Hudson Kennemore won the boys race in 16:02.55.
Girls race
Landrum won the girls team title with 35 points, putting five runners in the top 11. Northwestern was second with 46, Lake Wylie third with 76, and the York County Trailblazers and Clover tied for fourth at 124, with the Trailblazers placed ahead.
Northwestern’s scoring five included three seniors named Laval. Chloe Laval was sixth in 20:17.68, Skyler Laval eighth in 20:47.77 and Lily Laval 16th in 21:41.34. Freshman Ashlyn Alosi placed 17th in 21:49.02.
Lake Wylie’s Zoë Miller placed fourth in 20:07.77, the top finish for the host school. Freshman Eva Quintana (15th, 21:40.44), junior Makenna Young (18th, 21:54.32), junior Erika Holley (20th, 22:03.70) and junior Madeline Bessman (23rd, 22:37.69) rounded out the Lake Wylie scorers.
Behind Fuller, the Trailblazers’ next finisher was junior Anna Pauling in 21st (22:14.60). Clover was led by seniors Nadia Andrews, 10th in 20:57.42, and Kaya Best, 12th in 21:23.82.
South Pointe placed seventh with 224 points, led by senior Lydia Thompson in 29th (22:53.65). Riverwalk Academy was 10th, with junior Evy Carroll its top runner in 62nd (25:34.06). Lancaster did not have enough finishers for a team score. Junior Khloe Martinez led the Bruins in 27th in 22:45.92.

Boys race
J.L. Mann won the boys team title with 25 points, and Mauldin was second with 39. Kennemore beat J.L. Mann teammate Ben Hibbard, a senior, by nearly 14 seconds, and Mauldin senior Kai Cofer was third in 16:18.15.
The York County Trailblazers took third with 130 points, six ahead of Clover. Junior Elijah Duncan led the Trailblazers in 10th (16:47.09), followed by senior Luke Stralow in 21st (17:33.39) and junior Luke Mendenhall in 27th (17:44.94).
Clover senior Chase Hensley was the top local finisher in the boys race, placing seventh in 16:43.29. Seniors Chris Delgado (31st, 17:59.19) and Jack Baker (33rd, 17:59.45) finished a quarter second apart as Clover’s second and third runners.
Northwestern placed fifth with 167 points. Its five scorers finished within 51 seconds of each other, led by senior John Michael Slater in 29th (17:50.25) and senior Seth Ayers in 32nd (17:59.42).
Lake Wylie was seventh with 195 points. Sophomore Maitland Vanourny led the host team in 17th (17:21.27), and junior Gavin Burton was 25th (17:42.85).
South Pointe finished eighth with 212 points behind junior Noah Frazier (22nd, 17:36.23) and junior Lucas Watson (26th, 17:44.63). Riverwalk Academy placed 11th, with sophomore Collen Boozier 24th in 17:41.24. Lancaster senior Zacchaeus Jeter was the Bruins’ top boys finisher, 80th in 19:44.90. Lancaster did not post a team score.
