York senior Ellis Spencer won the boys 5,000 meter race on his team’s Senior Night on Thursday, Sept. 24, leading York to a 17 to 41 win over York Prep at its second home meet of the season.
Spencer finished in 17:31.11, more than a minute ahead of the field. Eighth grader Quinn Witte was second in 18:41.12, and York took the first four places with junior Daniel Kearney third in 19:13.73 and freshman Jayden Garrison fourth in 19:52.45.
Boys race
York’s fifth scorer, freshman Jackson Clontz, placed seventh in 20:39.76. Freshman Kevin King (eighth, 20:43.87) and freshman Robert Ashley (14th, 22:14.05) completed the York top seven.
York Prep freshman Michael Terlinde broke up the York run at the front, finishing fifth in 19:54.99, less than three seconds behind Garrison. Eighth grader Jax Mora was sixth in 20:00.89. York Prep’s scorers ran closer together than York’s, with a 1:30 spread compared with 3:08, but York’s front four decided the meet.
York Prep brought the largest group, with 18 runners finishing. Lake Pointe Academy sophomore Elijah Coulter placed 20th in 23:17.25. Lake Pointe did not have enough runners for a team score.
Girls race
York freshman Gracie Fuller won the girls race in 23:34.76. Junior Anna Whitley was second in 25:50.86 and freshman Amarie VanNostrand third in 26:39.35, giving York the top three spots.
Lake Pointe Academy sophomore Hannah Burchfield placed fourth in 28:00.22, a second and a half ahead of teammate Reagan Dellinger, an eighth grader, who finished fifth in 28:01.77. York freshman Danae Saurel was sixth in 30:52.71. Neither school fielded five girls, so no team scores were kept.
