Tega Cay Resident Honored At Army Basic Combat Training Graduation

A 2025 Fort Mill High School graduate and longtime Tega Cay Breakers swimmer has been named Soldier Leader of the Cycle, the top leadership honor given to a graduating class of Army Basic Combat Training, at a ceremony held at Fort Jackson in Columbia on June 17.

Grace Boyd, daughter of Tega Cay residents Courtney and Shane Boyd, earned the distinction after completing Basic Combat Training, the introductory training program required of all new Army recruits.

Before enlisting, Boyd spent her first semester of college at Western Carolina University, where she was named to both the Chancellor’s List and the Dean’s List.

Boyd is well known in the Tega Cay community through her years with the Tega Cay Breakers swim team. She joined the program as a swimmer at age 7 and went on to spend several years as a Junior Coach, working with younger swimmers in the club.

Boyd’s achievement reflects a notable start to both her college career and her military service, completed within a year of her high school graduation.
