South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce (SCMC) has launched a new Energy Council aimed at bringing together business leaders and industry experts to help shape the state’s energy future and support policies focused on reliable and affordable power.
The announcement came during SCMC’s inaugural South Carolina Energy Summit, where business executives, policymakers and energy professionals gathered to discuss the state’s growing energy needs. Topics included energy generation, grid reliability, infrastructure, workforce development and emerging technologies.
SCMC officials said the council is part of the organization’s effort to engage employers and stakeholders in discussions about energy policy and its impact on South Carolina’s economy.
The Energy Council will be chaired by Greg A. Thompson, president and chief executive officer of Thompson Construction Group Inc. Thompson, a longtime South Carolina business leader, has been involved in economic development and infrastructure projects throughout the state.
The council will serve as a forum for employers to share ideas, collaborate with policymakers and identify solutions to meet increasing energy demand as South Carolina continues to experience population and economic growth.
SCMC said the new council joins its expanding network of industry councils and committees, which are designed to bring together employers and subject matter experts to provide policy recommendations, exchange industry insights and strengthen the state’s economic competitiveness.
The organization expects the Energy Council to play a key role in fostering collaboration between the business community and state leaders as South Carolina plans for its long-term energy needs.
