South Carolina recorded its highest early voting turnout on record ahead of the June 9 primary, with the State Election Commission reporting more than 318,600 ballots cast statewide during the early voting period that ended June 5.
The agency put the final figure at 318,602 ballots, a total that far outpaced recent elections. The 2026 turnout more than doubled the 120,178 early votes cast in 2024 and more than tripled the 100,450 recorded in 2022.
In York County, voters cast 10,328 early ballots through June 4, with June 5 totals still outstanding when the county figures were compiled. The county operated three early voting sites.
The Holiday Inn Rock Hill at Galleria Mall led the county with 4,332 ballots, followed by Carolinas Cornerstone with 3,869 and the Fire Training Center of York County with 2,127. County turnout peaked on the first day of early voting, May 26, when 2,416 residents cast ballots, and remained steady through the closing days of the period.
