Lancaster County School District Offers Free Mental Health Resources for Families

Lancaster County School District has partnered with the Cook Center for Human Connection, a nonprofit dedicated to mental health and suicide prevention, to expand its mental health support to families. Through partnerships, families in the community have access to online resources provided by ParentGuidance.org at no cost.

● On-Demand Video Courses – 70+ courses led by licensed therapists and mental health experts on topics like anxiety and social media.
● Ask a Therapist – Family members can submit their questions and receive expert answers from mental health professionals as well as access more than 200 previously asked questions and answers.
● Parent Coaching – Every parent, guardian, and caregiver is eligible for confidential parent coaching. ParentGuidance.org lets parents and guardians sign up with a personal coach trained in cognitive behavioral strategies and schedule sessions at their convenience. Parents can message their coach anytime and receive timely responses.
● Mental Health Series – Online catalog of 30+ critical topics designed to give parents what they need, in a way that works for them. It includes live events, on-demand deep-dive videos, articles, and quick takeaways to support the unique needs of each family in your community. Some topics include bullying, emotional regulation, anxiety, and more. It allows parents to find support and answers when and how they need it.

“Families and students are facing increasing mental health needs, but they often lack access to resources when they need them,” said Dr. Norris Williams, Superintendent. “We are offering a proactive, positive resource to help parents help their children.”

“Talking about mental health and other concerns is the key to understanding,” said Adam Porter, Student Services Instructional Specialist. “Through ParentGuidance.org resources, parents will gain tools and strategies to empower them to talk with their children, engage in, and normalize important conversations about mental health.”

“ParentGuidance.org is a powerful tool to help families be the first line of support for their children,” said Anne Brown, president and CEO of Cook Center for Human Connection. “By providing education, resources, and direct support to families, we are helping the people who love and care for their children most: the parents and guardians. We are proud to partner with Lancaster County School District in their stewardship of student and family wellness and fostering a supportive mental health environment for all.”
