Three people face multiple drug and firearms charges after Lancaster County narcotics agents executed a search warrant at a Fork Hill Road home in Kershaw on Thursday, April 16, seizing more than 10 grams of suspected fentanyl, multiple other drugs, and a dozen firearms.
The arrests came after agents with the Lancaster County Multijurisdictional Narcotics Task Force conducted an undercover purchase of suspected fentanyl from Jarvis Mandrell Anthony, 46, at his Fork Hill Road residence earlier this month. Agents returned Thursday with a search warrant, backed by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics Team, the State Law Enforcement Division, and Homeland Security Investigations.
Anthony was home along with Brittany Francis Gainey, 34, and Richard Kevin Outen, 44, who share a separate address in Kershaw. All three were taken into custody without incident.
What Agents Found Inside
A search of the property turned up 10.54 grams of suspected fentanyl, suspected methamphetamine, suspected marijuana, mushrooms, pills believed to be alprazolam, and digital scales.
Agents also seized 12 firearms: nine handguns, two shotguns, and an AR-style rifle, along with ammunition and spare magazines. One of the handguns had been reported stolen in another county, and one of the shotguns had a sawed-off barrel.
Sheriff Barry Faile said Anthony attempted to dispose of evidence as officers arrived.
“When the officers arrived, Anthony was slow coming out of the bedroom he was in, and we found out he was tossing drugs out the window into the yard,” Faile said. “It was concerning to find that many guns around these drugs and particularly one that is stolen and another that is sawed off. I’m happy we now have the guns and they won’t end up being used in another crime.”
Charges and Bond Hearings
Anthony faces the most serious charges of the three, including trafficking fentanyl in the 4 to 14 gram range, two counts of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and charges related to methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, and alprazolam. Several of those charges carry an additional count for alleged distribution near Marion Boan Park. He also faces charges stemming from the earlier undercover sale and will be charged with multiple firearms violations. Anthony was denied bond at a Thursday afternoon hearing.
Gainey is charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, and a proximity charge related to Marion Boan Park. A magistrate set her bond at a total of $10,000, and she had not yet posted bond as of the release.
Outen faces charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, possession of fentanyl, and a proximity charge. His bond was set at a total of $9,000, and he remained in the Lancaster County Detention Center.
A Focused Investigation
Faile credited the task force’s sustained focus on the area for the outcome.
“The Task Force has been working the Fork Hill Road area in Kershaw pretty hard, and Anthony was the focus of that investigation,” he said. “Thanks to SLED and HSI for their help in this operation.”
All three defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
