Celebrate Earth Day Birthday on April 18 in York County — Free Fun for the Whole Family

Mark your calendars! Earth Day Birthday returns on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the York County Material Recovery Facility in York, SC. Best of all — it’s completely free.

This beloved community event is a partnership between York County Collection & Recycling and Keep York County Beautiful, and it’s packed with activities for all ages.

Where Does Your Recycling Go?

Ever wondered what really happens to your recyclables after they leave the curb? This is your chance to find out. Attendees will get an up-close look inside the York County Material Recovery Facility, where recycling is sorted, baled, and shipped to market. It’s a rare behind-the-scenes peek that’s both eye-opening and educational.

A Full Day of Activities

The fun kicks off at 10:00 am with an opening ceremony featuring free refreshments and music. Throughout the day, you can look forward to:

  • Touch-A-Truck — get hands-on with the big vehicles
  • Hands-on environmental exhibits and a scavenger hunt
  • Tie-dye t-shirts for just $1 (or bring your own shirt)
  • A plant sale hosted by the York County Master Gardeners
  • A make & take station with the Creative Reuse Center
