Dittmer Files for SC-05 Congressional Seat as Grassroots Momentum Surges

Former business executive and Fort Mill mom makes her run for Congress official with people-first policies focused on affordability, health care and taking care of South Carolinians in the fifth district.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Hope is on the move. Today, former business executive Mallory Dittmer, 40, officially filed for the Democratic nomination in South Carolina’s 5th District. Her policy platform, “The People’s Agenda,” prioritizes the needs of South Carolinian families over divisive partisan issues that so often dominate our political discourse.

“I decided to run because, like so many of you, I don’t recognize the country we’re raising our kids in,” Dittmer stated. “Our government is so stuck in partisan gridlock and grandstanding that it is failing to address the basic needs of its people. It’s time Americans come together, reject the red vs. blue narrative and put practical problem solvers back in Congress.”

This message of faith and optimism is resonating. Powered by a movement of neighbors rather than corporate and special interests, Dittmer’s campaign has amassed over 350 South Carolinian volunteers. Dittmer, who announced her candidacy last October, has secured more than 500 individual contributions and already outraised Democratic candidates in the last two cycles combined. Over months of traveling across District 5, she has heard collective exhaustion from Democratic, Republican, and Independent voters who are frustrated by unproductive politics, rising costs, and unreliable health care — and who simply want the freedom to afford to live and dream, access affordable health care, and keep our schools safe and education strong.

“The People’s Agenda” highlights three core priorities:

Affordability: Families across SC-05 are looking at their shopping receipts and monthly bills with real concern. Dittmer is committed to lowering the cost of utilities, housing, childcare — and will fight for a future in South Carolina where everyone has the chance to live affordably, plan for the future, and reach for their version of the American Dream.

“Affordability isn’t about ideology — it’s about whether families can pay the bills, raise kids, and plan ahead,” Dittmer said. “I’m running to ease financial burden and bring some serious breathing room back into the budgets of everyday South Carolinians.”

Dittmer will also fight to raise wages and bring well-paying jobs back to South Carolina’s 5th

district — a critical need following devastating plant closures across the state. As a long-time

critic of tariff wars, Dittmer prioritizes fair trade and tax policies that protect American workers

and farmers, and make life more affordable in South Carolina.

Health Care You Can Count On: As members of Congress waste time arguing while

compromising the health of our nation like a pawn in their political game, families across South Carolina are struggling to access basic, affordable health care.

“I will fight so every American has access to the quality health care they need at a price they can afford — without fear, confusion, or surprise bills,” Dittmer stated.

Productive, Non-Toxic Politics: Voters across the political spectrum agree with Dittmer when she says, “2026 is the year we elect leaders who are less interested in making headlines and more interested in passing bills that make our lives better.”

Dittmer wants to restore trust in our government and return power to the people by cracking down on insider trading and holding politicians accountable when they ignore the needs of their constituents.
