18-Year-Old Charged with Murder in Fatal Shooting of Mother’s Boyfriend in Lancaster

LANCASTER, S.C. — An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of his mother’s boyfriend following a late-night dispute, according to reports from Queen City News and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

D’Andre Azam Ivey, 18, is currently being held at the Lancaster County Detention Center without bond. According to booking records, he was processed on Monday morning and faces charges of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.

The Incident

Deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home on Thompson Road around 1:40 a.m. on Monday, March 16. Upon arriving, a deputy found the victim, 37-year-old Justin Damien Bailey, on his bedroom floor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived shortly after and rushed Bailey to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Investigation

Investigators believe the fatal incident stemmed from an argument late Sunday night between Bailey and Ivey regarding “Ivey’s lifestyle.” During the dispute, authorities say Ivey armed himself with an AR-style pistol and fired several shots at Bailey, striking him multiple times.

The residence was shared by Bailey, his girlfriend (Ivey’s mother), Ivey, and Ivey’s 18-year-old girlfriend.

After the shooting, Ivey allegedly fled the home with his girlfriend in a blue 2014 Ford Taurus. Deputies searching the vicinity located the vehicle traveling on Thompson Road, heading back toward the crime scene. A traffic stop was conducted near the home, and both Ivey—who was driving—and his girlfriend were detained.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Ivey’s girlfriend has not been implicated in or charged with any criminal activity.
