Rock Hill Schools Join Regional Closures Ahead of Severe Weather

ROCK HILL, SC — Rock Hill Schools (RHSD) has announced that all schools and district facilities will be closed tomorrow, Monday, March 16, joining other York County districts in taking precautions against a significant severe weather threat.

The decision was made in coordination with York County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service. Forecasts for the Rock Hill area include high-risk conditions for severe thunderstorms, possible tornadoes, and damaging winds of up to 70 MPH.


What You Need to Know for Monday

To ensure the safety of students, families, and staff, the district has implemented the following:

  • Campus Closures: All Rock Hill schools and district offices will be closed.

  • Extracurriculars: All after-school activities, including athletics and clubs, are officially canceled for Monday.

  • Safety First: Families are encouraged to stay off the roads and monitor local weather alerts.

Schedule Change for Friday, March 20

In an effort to keep instruction on track despite the emergency closure, the district has adjusted the schedule for the end of the week. The teacher workday previously scheduled for Friday, March 20, will now be an E-Learning Day for all students.

Friday’s Details:

  • Students: Will participate in E-Learning from home. Assignments and specific schedules will be shared by individual schools later this week.

  • Staff: Friday remains an on-site workday for all staff members, as previously planned.
