Rock Hill will host a high profile political figure this Monday as California Governor Gavin Newsom visits McGirt Auditorium. The event is scheduled for February 23 and will run from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Newsom is visiting the area to celebrate his new memoir titled Young Man in a Hurry. The book explores his personal journey from dealing with dyslexia and starting a small business to his time as the mayor of San Francisco and his current role as governor. The New York Times has listed the memoir as a most anticipated book of 2026.
The memoir provides an account of Newsom’s family history and the forces that defined his political ambitions. He reflects on his childhood in San Francisco and his work on various social issues including climate change and mental health care. Before his career in public office, Newsom was a small business entrepreneur who founded the PlumpJack Group.
The evening is presented by Books A Million. Tickets for the event are $49.33 and each purchase includes a copy of the new memoir. For those who purchase tickets but cannot attend the live session, the bookstore will hold copies at their Rock Hill location for a two week period for pickup.
Organizers have issued a strict security protocol for the auditorium located at 825 Crawford Road. A no bag policy will be in place for all attendees. Exceptions are only permitted for medical needs and those bags will be screened by security staff upon entry.
Several items are strictly prohibited from the venue to ensure the safety of all guests. This list includes weapons of any kind, knives, outside food or beverages, and metal water bottles. Additionally, signs, flags, umbrellas, and noise making devices will not be allowed inside the auditorium.
The governor is expected to share personal insights into the defining moments of his life in politics. A moderator for the discussion will be announced soon. This event offers a rare opportunity for local residents to hear from one of the most recognizable elected officials in the country.
