With its visually appealing and user-friendly design, the SCAAHC website will assist the Commission in reaching audiences across South Carolina and beyond.

“This honor motivates the Commission to continue adding beneficial information and resources to the website, with the next goal being a collection focused on the involvement of Black individuals during the American Revolution.” Said Chair Vivian Glover.

The Commission’s commitment to preserving and promoting Black South Carolina history and connecting audiences to that information, specifically through the creation of an independent statewide website was, instrumental in receiving this honor.”

The South Carolina State Library created this award in 1991 to recognize notable state agency publications released within a calendar year. Since then, the award has expanded to include state government websites, videos, and apps.

“South Carolina state documents provide a wealth of information, statistics, and share a broad range of knowledge about our state,” said South Carolina State Library Director Leesa Aiken. “I am pleased that we are able to publicly recognize these important publications and websites as notable documents, and it is my hope that all South Carolina state agencies continue to produce high-quality documents such as these.”

The Commission is grateful to the staff at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History and Beam & Hinge for their passionate work and dedication.
