Nature enthusiasts and hiking aficionados have a new destination to add to their calendars. York County officials have officially announced the opening date for the Catawba Bend Preserve, a massive 1,900-acre natural site situated along the scenic Catawba River.
The park is scheduled to welcome its first visitors on Saturday, March 7, marking the debut of the county’s newest and one of its largest recreational assets.
Located at 4134 Catawba Bend Parkway, just off Neely Store Road, the preserve offers a landscape designed for outdoor exploration. Upon the grand opening, residents will have immediate access to a network of hiking trails and a designated picnic grove.
The site’s proximity to the river provides a unique ecological backdrop, and park planners intend to use the opening day to educate the public on additional features slated to debut later in the year. While the initial phase focuses on foot traffic and passive recreation, the long-term vision for the property includes a variety of amenities that capitalize on the diverse terrain.
The opening of Catawba Bend Preserve represents a milestone in York County’s effort to preserve greenspace amid rapid regional development. By securing 1,900 acres of riverfront property, the county has ensured that a substantial portion of the Catawba River remains accessible for public use and environmental conservation.
