In the wake of a recent winter storm, Habitat for Humanity of York County is facing a significant setback after more than a dozen tools were stolen from a Rock Hill build site. However, true to their mission, the organization isn’t focusing on the loss, but rather on the opportunity for the community to come together.
The Incident
While a snowstorm blanketed the region last week, thieves targeted a local Habitat construction site, making off with over $1,800 worth of essential equipment. For a non-profit that relies on every dollar to provide affordable housing, a loss of this magnitude can threaten the timeline for families waiting to move into their new homes.
Despite the theft, the organization’s public response has been remarkably grounded in grace.
“While we don’t know the circumstances, we choose to respond with empathy and community,” the organization shared in a recent statement.
How You Can Help
The goal is simple: replace the tools quickly so construction can continue without missing a beat. Habitat for Humanity is inviting the Rock Hill community to turn this unfortunate event into a display of local solidarity.
There are two primary ways to support the “Build Site Recovery”:
-
Monetary Donations: Financial gifts allow the team to purchase specific high-priority items and cover the $1,800 gap immediately. You can donate through their secure portal here.
-
Tool & Supply Donations: The team is looking for specific replacements to match their existing kits, including:
-
DeWalt XR Cordless Drills
-
Propane Tanks (essential for keeping sites workable in cold weather)
-
Various other construction essentials.
-
Standing with Local Families
This isn’t just about hammers and drills; it’s about the family currently working alongside volunteers to build their future. Habitat for Humanity remains committed to ensuring this delay is as brief as possible, proving that a community’s generosity is far more powerful than a single act of theft.
