SCDOT requests comments on proposed bridge repair project in York County

Columbia, S.C. (January 6, 2026) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation requests comments on proposed bridge repair, rehabilitation, and preservation services for the SC 274 (Hands Mill Highway) Northbound bridge over Big Allison Creek in York County.

The proposed repairs are scheduled for fall 2026. For a period of 45 days to allow for bridge deck repairs, traffic will be shifted to the adjacent SC 274 Southbound bridge. This will allow for at least one lane of traffic to remain open in each direction throughout the project.

The proposed repairs are part of SCDOT’s Statewide Closed and Load Restricted Bridge Repair Program. The repairs will help extend the service life of the bridge and improve transportation mobility in the region.
