Mr. Arthur Everett Burgess, age 78, of York, SC, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Hospice and Community Care, Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. A man who was born with a wild spirit is finally set free.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Bratton Funeral Home, 1455 Filbert Hwy, York, SC 29745. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Max Russell officiating. Mr. Burgess will be laid to rest at Lakeview Memory Gardens with full military honors performed by VFW Post 12136 Honor Guard.
Everett was born on May 10, 1947, in York, SC. He was the son of the late Arthur Burgess and Elizabeth Ruth Ramsey Burgess. After graduating from high school, Everett proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later retired from Duke Energy.
He is survived by his son, Todd Burgess; his grandchildren, Kaitlynne Burgess Hope, Payton Burgess (Bryce Spurlin), Gunner Burgess, Eric Burgess, Kary B. Gann (Kevin), and Cheyenne Burgess Fowler (Ethan); and his great-grandchildren, Lilianne Spurlin, Jett Spurlin, Austin Burgess, Colston Gann, and Gage Gann. Also surviving are his sister, Peggy Montgomery, and daughter-in-law, Catherine Burgess.
In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Burgess, and his siblings, Betty Chariker, Dottie Burgess, and Jerry Burgess.
